Coming Sunday

This Sunday is the 16th Sunday After Pentecost. Linda's message is “God the Rescuer?” The Choir will sing “Wade in the Water." We will collect our 2 Cents a Meal offering. There will also be a Service Of Godspeed for Sophia Frimpong before she departs for Ghana.

There will be a congregational meeting right after the church service for members to vote on a change to Linda's terms of call. The proposed plan is for Linda to work ¾ time for a trial period of six months, starting in October. There will be a decrease in Linda’s salary, appropriate to serving ¾ time.

Church Picnic

Following the congregational meeting, we will gather for a church picnic to kick off the new school year. The main dish will be Hethwood Market pulled pork or pulled chicken for sandwiches and coleslaw. Dessert will be ice cream treats. Please bring a side dish to share.

Sunday School

Sunday School will start on September 20. The delay is due to Labor Day weekend and the congregational meeting. As of now, we will have one adult class, the Adult Forum. We will alternate our topical studies with Bible study. We will begin with a presentation of Linda's experience with PCUSA General Assembly, and many of the decisions reached there. Please come with questions.

Feed the Flock

Northside is one of the sponsoring churches of Ukirk, the Presbyterian Campus Ministry, along with Blacksburg Presbyterian,  Christiansburg Presbyterian and Roanoke Valley Presbyterian churches. Part of that support includes providing a meal once a month on Tuesdays while Virginia Tech is in session. This involves meal preparation and delivery to Cooper House on Washington St. starting at 5:30 p.m. Once the meal is ready, you may eat with the students, then clean up after the meal. 

Northside's dates to serve are: September 15, October 20, November 17, January 19, February 23, March 30, and April 27. You can sign up on the For Us page or notify the church office. If you have questions, see Jane Jones.

Upcoming Services

Please mark your calendars with these dates as we remember those who have passed away. A memorial service for Rev. Dr. Hugh Springer, a former pastor of Northside, is scheduled for Saturday, October 10, at 11 a.m. There will also be a memorial service for long-time member Emily Bender. Both services will be at Northside. Details will be available closer to those dates.

Giving Opportunity!

Sophia Frimpong is setting up a school in Ghana. She is beginning with kindergarten and will gradually add other grades. Ordering things and having them sent directly to Ghana or buying local is the best option economically.  Desks and chairs are a priority.  If you would like to donate to Sophia’s education project you may write a check to Northside, noting that it is for the "Ghana school project."  You can also donate on line by selecting "Northside PC Ad Hoc Giving" and noting that the payment is for the "Ghana school project."

Monday Night Supper

We did not be serving meals on Monday, Sept. 7, due to the Labor Day holiday.

Volunteers to help prepare and pack meals are always welcome and needed.
