Coming Sunday and Beyond
Linda will preach on “Repenting.” The choir will sing “Amazing Grace! Amazing Love!" to enhance the worship service. We will collect the 2 Cents a Meal offering. Bring your coins to drop in the container to help fight hunger. The Monday Night Supper mission receives grant funding from this program every year. Sunday School starts after Fellowship time. Linda will continue with her series on the history of western Christianity and the kids will be having a short learning time with Susan downstairs during church time after they have their time in the sanctuary.
Next Sunday, Sept. 21, we will have a brief congregational meeting right after worship to elect church officers to the class of 2028. The officers include elders, deacons, and a member of the Memorials Board.

New sign-up System There are a variety of ways to serve the congregation by volunteering to help in the nursery, usher, host fellowship time, or read the scripture during worship. Typically someone emails a list of "regulars" to collect dates of availability, creates a schedule, then goes back and forth to fill open dates. The other method is to track people down during fellowship time to ask them to fill a date and position.
This process won't go away, but it will be easier with a bit of on-line help. There is now a form on the website where you can pick the positions you wish to fill and the dates you will serve. Go to https://www.nsidepresbburg.org/volsign/ to start.
Select a position you are interested in helping with and click the "Submit" button. You will see a form that lists open dates for that position. Select the dates you are available to help, enter your name, phone number, and email, then submit the form. You will receive a confirmation email showing the position and dates you signed up for.
As always, you will receive a reminder email the Thursday before you are scheduled to help.

Feed the Hungry A large part of Northside's mission is feeding hungry people through the Monday Night Supper mission, work at the Blacksburg Interfaith Food Pantry, and by providing a meal each month to students at Ukirk, the Presbyterian Campus Ministry in which we are a partner church.
Volunteers work at the food pantry on the fourth Tuesday of every month, helping shoppers, stocking shelves, and sorting donations. The hours are from 3:45 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. There is a group of regulars but additional help (even as a substitute) is always welcome. Contact Joe Hunnings or the church office to sign up.
The next date to "feed the flock" at Ukirk is Tuesday, October 14. Jane Jones has details and instructions about what needs to be done and provided.
We also welcome helpers every Monday to fix salad, fill to-go boxes, pack meals, and deliver them to the parking lot. Sign up with Heidi Harper. |
